Why Do We Forget the one Commandment that Starts "Remember"?

Exodus 20:8-11
"Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of Yahweh your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days Yahweh made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore Yahweh blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it."

Have you ever noticed that? We have eight commandments from Yahweh that begin with "Thou Shalt", one that starts with "Honor", but the fourth commandment begins with the word "Remember". So why is it that everyone has forgotten it? Our savior Yashua (Jesus) kept the Sabbath.

Luke 4:16
"So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read."

Christ and his followers even kept the Sabbath while he was in the grave.

Luke 23:56
"Then they returned and prepared spices and fragrant oils. And they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment."

The apostle Paul kept the Sabbath.

Acts 17:2
"Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures".

Christ even warned that when Jerusalem was to be destroyed, almost 40 years in the future, that His followers should pray that they would not have to flee on the Sabbath.

Matthew 24:20
"And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath."

According to the writer of Hebrews the Sabbath is still to be observed. Read Hebrew chapter 4:1-9.

Hebrews 4:9
"There remains therefore a rest for the people of God."

The Greek word for rest in verse nine is different from the rest found in verses one, three, four, five, eight, ten and eleven. Verses one through eight and ten and eleven use the Greek word, "katapausis" (G2663), which according to Strong's Concordance means "reposing down, rest". The rest in verse nine is from the Greek word, "sabbatismos" (G4520)(derived from G4521), which according to Strong's Concordance means, "a sabbatism" or "sabbath", or figuratively "the repose of Christianity". So the verse should read:

Hebrews 4:9
"There remains therefore a Sabbath for the people of God."

Did you know that we will even observe the Sabbath in the next age?

Isaiah 66:22-23
"For as the new heavens and the new earth Which I will make shall remain before Me," says Yahweh, "So shall your descendants and your name remain. And it shall come to pass that from one new month (chodesh) to another, And from one Sabbath to another, All flesh shall come to worship before Me," says Yahweh."

Our God, Yahweh, observed the very first Sabbath on this earth and He will, with his chosen, observe it forever.

Some follow Friday evening to Saturday evening, others Saturday noon to Sunday noon. Most today believe they are to use Sunday as a Sabbath. Personally I lean toward a noon to noon Sabbath realizing that because of our calendar it is impossible for us to keep the exact day in a given year. The point of this article, however, is not to argue when the Sabbath should be observed. The point is to encourage people to really observe a Sabbath. The scripture teaches what we should and should not do on the Sabbath. I could now start quoting those scriptures, but would it not be better for you if you now got out your Bible or Bible software and began searching through the Word of God to discover this truth for yourself?

May Yahweh bless you in this study. Yahweh will bless you when you do observe the Sabbath.

Mark 2:27-28
"...The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath."
